Our programmes

When we established solarcity we wanted to do things differently. We set out to do business with a social conscience and to be innovative in using solar for social good.

Business

We work with other companies that share our vision to deliver cleaner, clean energy to all New Zealanders.

Panasonic Black

We're working closely with Panasonic which is one of the top green electronics brands in the world. Through an exclusive deal with this global leader in lithium-ion battery technology, we are the first solar company in New Zealand to be offering a solar battery solution that is affordable to most Kiwi homeowners.

We're also working with Jennian Homes to provide new homebuyers with a smart solution to lower their energy costs and protect the environment by going solar. Jennian Homes is pre-wiring all its new homes for solar, batteries and electric car charging and, in a NZ-first, it's giving new homebuyers the option of adding solar energy services from us for no extra upfront cost.

Westpac supports New Zealand’s transition to a low carbon economy and is committed to investing in the clean technology and environmental services sector (CleanTech). That’s why they are proud to support CleanTech companies like solarcity in their efforts to bring an affordable solar solution to all New Zealand homeowners.

Westpac has committed more than $1.1billion in lending to the New Zealand CleanTech sector since 2012 and is targeting growth of $100m in gross new lending by 2017. By developing innovative and collaborative financial solutions for this sector, Westpac can play an important part in accelerating New Zealand’s transition to a low carbon economy. Supporting CleanTech businesses like solarcity makes it possible for New Zealanders to access solar power, without the need to purchase the panels; making solar more affordable and accessible to home owners.

Community

solarcity is working in partnership with the Centre for Sustainability (CSAFE), at the University of Otago, and Victoria University’s School of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS), to establish a 'National Solar Laboratory'. It's mission; conduct a comprehensive study into household solar energy, to better inform and guide the nation towards a sustainable energy future. This will be conducted by installing 120 solar systems on homes across the country and five systems on commercial properties - including schools and businesses. The study will help explore ideas for how solar energy can help support underprivileged communities and through awareness, education, mentoring and insights from real-time data, help homeowners change their energy consumption for the better.

Pacific Island commitment

Reliable access to energy lies at the heart of economic development and is crucial to human well-being. Reducing the Pacific's reliance on expensive, imported fossil fuels and promoting renewable energy is important to the region's energy and water security. solarcity is retained by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to advise on regional energy strategy and the economics of solar. We are committed to reducing the impact of climate change on the Pacific Islands by supporting the installation of solar desalination and power plants to provide access to fresh water and electricity. solarcity has been involved in a number of Pacific Island installations including the Cook Islands, Nauru and Vanuatu.

Charitable contributions

solarcity is an official sponsor of Forest & Bird providing both financial and volunteering support. In addition to our set sponsorship fee, we donate $200 directly to Forest & Bird each time one of its members chooses to go solar with us. Plus, every time any solarcity customer refers a friend who goes on to become a customer, they are offered a $200 reward that they can keep, share with their friend or donate to Forest & Bird. Our sponsorship adds up to tens of thousands of dollars per year. Together we can make a difference in the fight against climate change.
