Steve Allan

Steve Allan: Chief Financial Officer 

Steve is a key advisor to the executive team and board and is focused on the future growth and scalability of solarcity. He has extensive financial management experience in the media, marketing and technology industries, gained from a variety of senior financial and management positions in New Zealand, Singapore, the UK and North America.

Prior to joining solarcity, Steve was Chief Financial Officer at VMob, a fast growing early stage Software-as-a-Service business. Listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange, VMob was focused on end-to-end mobile personalisation and real-time, contextual analytics services. Steve holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from the University of Otago and is a member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Maryanne Smith: Chief Marketing Officer

Maryanne Smith joined solarcity in early 2018 to head our sales, marketing and customer service departments in the newly created role of Chief Marketing Officer.

With strong marketing experience, developed here and overseas, Maryanne is leading our high performance teams to create amazing experiences that our customers can love and trust. She is driven by the challenge of accelerating New Zealand’s transition to a clean energy future.

Maryanne spent seven years at Noel Leeming (owned by The Warehouse Group) with the core responsibility of delivering a seamless and consistent brand experience across all customer touch-points. She led the significant rebrand of Noel Leeming in 2014 and ran the marketing for all high-volume retail, brand and customer loyalty programmes. Prior to that, Maryanne was the Consumer Marketing Director with DFS (Duty Free Shoppers) Ltd for close to 10 years, based in Auckland and Hong Kong, managing highly diverse marketing capabilities across the globe.


Nicki Smith: Chief Revenue Officer 

Nicki has been an environmental marketer since graduating from Otago Universityin Applied Science and Marketing back in the 90s.  She was involved with both the technical introduction and the marketing of Environmental Choice  at Feltex Carpets where she advanced from being Product Development Technician to GM Marketing, she then moved on to become Marketing Director of Lend Lease's two billion Sustainable Urban Community in Melbourne Docklands which included providing the marketing support for  three 5 star buildings,  then as a Head of Strategic Planning and Analytics of Mail Marketing Service, she had a special focus on supporting environmental conscious clients to improve targeting and reduce waste.  Now at solarcity, she is part of a highly motivated team that is seeking to make a real difference in the fight against climate change one rooftop at a time


Mikal Todd: Chief Information Officer

Mikal is leading our information technology and IT platform development. He has gained extensive experience as a Developer and Solutions Architect, working for a wide range of businesses both in New Zealand and his homeland in the UK. Mikal enjoys working at the forefront of information technology, and has co-founded two businesses. The first was in London in 2000 and the latest was CloudinIT in 2015, which quickly became the fastest growing Salesforce partner in Australia and NZ.


Karen Sharp: Head of Customer Experience

Karen is leading the development of our growing customer experience team. She is passionate about customer service and has been closely involved in New Zealand's fast-paced contact centre sector since the 1990s. Before taking up her role at solarcity Karen was the Head of Customer Care at Skinny Mobile and, prior to that, spent 14 years at NZAA, starting as a team leader and finished as the manager of three contact centres employing a total of 100 people. Karen won the CCiNZ Contact Centre manager of the Year (under 50 seats) in 2011 and 2016.

Liesel Rowe: Marketing Manager

Liesel joined the solarcity team in mid 2014, playing a critical role in the project to build, brand and release our solarZero® energy service onto the New Zealand market. Back then she was a marketing communications specialist in a team of two, covering everything from content management to campaign co-ordination. Within three years she was promoted to Marketing Manager. Liesel now leads a team of six based in the Auckland office and oversees all aspects of our dynamic marketing programme. Prior to joining solarcity, Liesel started her marketing career with a leading company in the direct selling industry.


Derek Maher: National Sales Director

Derek created and grew one of Australia's most experienced outsourced sales and sales training organisations which managed 11 clients internationally. He has a wealth of experience covering all areas of training, coaching and sales strategy and has worked with organisations including SunEdison, Ducere Education and Energy Matters. Derek joined solarcity in mid 2016 as our Sales Operations and Training Manager. Due to our rapid growth, and his experience, he was made National Sales Director a few months later. Derek shares solarcity's belief that all Kiwis should have access to clean and affordable power and we are working together to turn that vision into reality.


Tim Savill: Strategy and Systems Director 

After serving in the Royal Navy Tim built a career in consultancy and project management. He has managed projects as diverse as drilling rig environmental data capture, commercialisation of applied research, business change programmes. Since joining solarcity he has helped develop the key financing mechanism the company has developed with city councils and banks including Kiwibank and Westpac.


Ofa Lewis

Ofa has a wealth of experience in telesales and customer services combined with operations and credit management. She spent 18 years working for New Zealand’s leading residential direct selling company supporting the growth from 20 to over 250 employees. In 2011 she helped establish the company’s call centre team, employing more than 100 people, later going on to become the National Field and Contact Centre Manager. Ofa joined solarcity in mid 2015. She’s enjoying building the team of solar specialists to help more Kiwis learn about the benefits of choosing to go solar with our solarZero® energy service.

Andrew Booth: CEO 

Andrew was an international board director of Greenpeace. In 1992 he founded World Television and established it as Europe's largest IPTV communication group. With Reuters and CNN he launched the world's first international news feed on the environment and successfully floated the company on the London Stock Exchange. 


Paul Smart: Director 

Paul was the founding CFO of Sky Television where he helped lead its growth for 12 years to a market capitalisation of $2.2 billion and a NZ top 10 listed company with listings on the NZX, ASX and NASDAQ markets. He was CFO of Meridian Energy, and is currently a professional director. 


Philippa Weston 

Philippa is an Investment Director at Pencarrow and has over 15 years of experience in investment management. Prior to joining Pencarrow in 2012, Philippa was Head of Investments at Kiwibank, where she led the successful acquisition of Gareth Morgan Investments and was previously AMP Capital Investors' Chief Operating Officer. 


Key advisers

Dr Keith Turner 

Keith was the CEO of Meridian Energy for nine years from its establishment in 1999. He is now the Chairman of Fisher and Paykel Appliances, Deputy Chairman of Auckland International Airport, and a director of Chorus. Keith served as solarcity's Chairman for its first three years. 

Professor Arthur Williamson

Emeritus Professor Arthur Williamson invested and commercialised the world's first flat sheet evacuated solar panel. A fellow of both the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry and the Institution of Professional Engineers, he was awarded the Graham Stevens Award for outstanding contributions to solar energy.
