Christmas Tree at the Rockefeller Centre goes green

The Rockefeller Centre in New York City has recently installed 363 solar panels to generate electricity for the first ever solar powered Christmas Tree at the Centre. The Christmas tree is decorated with 30,000 energy efficient LED lights on nearly 8 kilometres of wire.

The panels, which make the Rockefeller Centre the largest privately owned installation in Manhattan, generate 70 kilowatts in energy production and will help light the tree, and its surrounding light decorations, for its 42 days of operation.
