A floor that converts the energy of walking people into electricity is currently being developed in Spain. The flooring converts the kinetic energy of walking people into usable electricity. This will be the world’s most efficient energy converting floor system, with one step or move on a tile generating between 2-29 joules.
The company developing the flooring has had previous experience with creating specialised dance flooring and see the technology as being able to be easily integrated into train stations and speed bumps where there is a high frequency of movement each day. The developers of this flooring also see schools as a key location for being able to integrate the tiles into their buildings, as schools carry a large volume of students each day who are constantly moving around.
