Global Divestment Day, a push to invest in more sustainable business opportunities was celebrated around the world today. One of these business opportunities is the solarZero programme developed by solarcity, where new solar panels installed on Deepak De Sousa's home that could have cost him $10,000 were installed for free.
He is the first customer to benefit from this new scheme where customers purchase power not panels. The panels won't supply his whole energy needs but the price charged will be 10% cheaper than that he is paying for power from traditional power companies. Andrew Booth CEO of solarcity summed this up as he stated "today the system will meet around 90 percent of the homes energy needs and over time that will increase as new technologies become available and the technology becomes far more effective."
