Designed by Swedish architect Mans Tham, this solar skin, that will encapsulate part of the Santa Monica Highway, is made from solar panels that could provide enough power to all of Venice, California. The design uses 600,000 panels and would also provide shade to Californian drivers who currently rely on the air conditioning in their cars to keep them cool. This would in turn cut down on the total amount of petrol used on the freeway. For those who have electric cars, the design incorporates power-up stations along the way.
As well as beinng a sustainable project the solar skin will reduce the noise pollution in the area as the skin acts a sound buffer. Still in the conceptual stages, we can’t wait to see this project come to life.
