The solarZero smart battery in your home has customised programming to fit your energy requirements (we call this your “energy profile”).
This programming is based on the known data we have from your past power use (analysed from your previous power bills). The energy profile of each solarZero customer is unique and can change over time.
When solarZero has been running in your home for a few months we review the data and adjust how the smart battery charges, stores and discharges energy based on the household patterns that emerge.
IMPORTANT: Don't turn the battery off.
Your battery is programmed specifically for your home so that it charges and exchanges power with the grid during optimum times. This provides the greatest benefit to your home, and ensures you achieve the savings guarantee. If the battery is switched off the programming is affected and will have a negative effect on the solarZero service savings guarantee.
As a rule of thumb:
- The battery is charged from the grid between 1-4am when grid energy is cheapest.
- MORNING PEAK: The battery discharges stored energy from 7am when peak pricing usually starts to power your home. Any unused stored energy that your home doesn’t use is sold back to the grid, at real-time prices.
- Solar energy powers your home from 11am-5pm. Any unused solar energy generated in this period is stored in the battery, or sold back to the grid if the battery is full.
- The battery is topped up to 100% using off-peak grid energy (if needed) before 5pm.
- EVENING PEAK: The stored energy in the battery is used to offset the energy needed in the home from 5pm when the second peak pricing period starts. This means you avoid having to purchase energy for your home when it is more expensive. This stored energy lasts until it has all been used. The maximum output from the battery is 3.6kW so if the load in your home exceeds this, grid electricity will be imported to supply the extra energy needed.
To further minimise the amount of purchased grid energy you need, you can make other changes in your home’s power consumption by timing some appliances to run during off-peak times (eg: dishwasher, washing machine, EV charging). And if you’re replacing an appliance go for the highest energy-efficiency star rated, or switch settings to “ECO” to reduce the power and water consumption each cycle.
