NZ takes vital step on climate action

The New Zealand Government has taken an historic step and delivered a huge win for the climate by ending new exploration for oil and gas in our waters.

That’s awesome news as two-thirds of the world’s fossil fuel reserves need to stay in the ground if there is to be any chance of keeping global warming under 2°C. The ban is an important step towards making our country carbon neutral by 2050 and will help accelerate climate action in other countries. New Zealand has also joined an alliance of nations committed to rapidly phasing out coal. We’re now waiting to hear how that will happen.
