solarcity appoints new Chief Marketing Officer

Maryanne Smith, former Noel Leeming and Torpedo7 Group General Manager - Marketing, has joined solarcity in the newly created position of Chief Marketing Officer to lead sales, marketing and customer services.

solarcity CEO Andrew Booth says Smith’s retail customer expertise will be vital as the solar energy services company continues to expand.

“As GM Marketing of Noel Leeming, Maryanne led strategic initiatives to challenge, inspire and reinvent its brand position and customer experience in a highly competitive and complex retail environment. That’s exactly the vision and trusted brand reputation we want to inspire for solarcity.”

Smith spent seven years at Noel Leeming (owned by The Warehouse Group) with the core responsibility of delivering a seamless and consistent brand experience across all customer touch-points. She led the significant rebrand of Noel Leeming in 2014 and ran the marketing for all high-volume retail, brand and customer loyalty programmes. Prior, she was the Consumer Marketing Director with DFS (Duty Free Shoppers) Ltd for close to 10 years, based in Auckland and Hong Kong, managing highly diverse marketing capabilities across the globe.

“I am passionate about leading high performance teams who create amazing experiences that our customers can love and trust. A key priority will be to support the development and delivery of award-winning energy service platforms so that more New Zealanders can enjoy the benefits of solar energy,” she says.

“I can see that the solarcity team is driven by a mission to accelerate New Zealand’s transition to a clean energy future. Being part of this talented team that has a single-minded purpose to drive this change for today and tomorrow’s generations is what really excites me.”

Smith is the latest executive with highly successful retail customer experience to join solarcity. Recent appointments include Karen Sharp, who was head of Customer Care at Skinny Mobile and Mikal Todd who founded and led New Zealand’s and Australia’s fastest growing Salesforce partner, CloudinIT.
