Last week we launched our state-of-the-art solarZero app which gives you fingertip control over the way you monitor and use energy in your home.
This is an exciting addition to our solarZero energy service that, along with our personalised energy advice, will help transform your home into a smart home.
The solarZero app works on your smart phone, tablet or computer. It has the capacity to turn your appliances and devices into ‘intelligent’ assets which can communicate their usage and respond to activity around them in real-time all thanks to Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
Quite simply that means you can control your home’s appliances remotely. Schedule them to switch on when they’re needed and then to turn off when they’re finished. Did you know the average Kiwi showers for seven minutes a day and water heating uses about 30% of your home’s energy? With the solarZero app you can schedule your hot water cylinder so it’s powered by solar energy to reduce your grid use. You can also time other appliances to come on during the day to maximise your solar use.
The solarZero app gives you that control anytime, whether you’re at home, in the office, or even on the other side of the world.
That’s not all. You can use the solarZero app to monitor solar generation so you can see how much you’re using compared to your overall energy requirements and how much is being exported. This info is displayed in easy to read graphs covering the current day or extending back over the last week. These personal insights will reveal your home’s energy patterns so you can adjust your usage to be more energy efficient and save money.
The beauty of the solarZero app is its user-friendliness and flexibility. On the one hand, it can be set up to do its job without any intervention on the user’s part (‘set and forget’) for those who want to take a back seat.
On the other hand, it lets technology enthusiasts delve as deeply as they want into the monitoring and control of their energy generation and consumption – whether that is simply setting parameters for how their home operates or manually controlling individual devices.
You choose the level of engagement and control you want to have so that you can power your home your way. Watch the video at the top of this page to see how the solarZero app could work in your home.
